Took my ion apart to clean it, because even with a ball in the chamber and the power LED indicating the eyes were working, it wouldn't fire. Put it together and now LED blinks as though a ball is in the chamber, when the chamber is empty, it fires every time the trigger is pulled.

Aside fom the eyes, or my workmanship being faulty, what else could be wrong?

Did you pinch an eye wire or somehow damage the board the eyes are on?

I don't think so,but getting the plug back into the board took some fiddling, could've broken a wire. If that were the case, I should be able to disconnect the wire completely and gun would still fire, right?

Yes, the gun would still fire perfectly fine but since your gun still shoots i doubt that it is the main board that is causing your problems. its most likely a pinched eye wire like Paul said (VERY easy to do on the old style ions) or while fiddling with the eyes you bent one out of alignment. Both of these have happened to me before.

I dont know if this will work on stock eyes like it does on the virtue eyes but you can test them with a flashlight. simply shine the flashlight onto the detector side and see if the main board reads an empty breach. if it does your eyes could be out of alignment or an issue with the breach itself.

Took it apart again, the wires don't appear to be broken or bent, looked at the eyes, straightened them out a little. Shining a flashlight into the breach did not make the eyes read empty breach (unles you meant for me check while the gun was apart). I did notice last night that the "reflective sticker" for the detector is missing, but the marker was working properly before so I don't think that is a major contributor.

So it looks like it could still be either the eyes or the wires. What does a set of eyes cost?

bought a wiring harness because it was the cheaper alternative. It WAS the wires, $10 fix! Thanks Paul & Deryk

no problem. Those eye wires are quite easy to damage and not even realize it. just do your best to pull on the white connector instead of the wire to keep the wires from getting loose and not connecting.
